  1. Welcome! Equitable/AXA, Valic and Voya most likely are going to be more expensive than TIAA. For example, Equitable/AXA charges 1.2% before you even chose investments https://www.403bcompare.com/products/153#/fees. It looks to me like the Equity 500 index fund via Equitable/AXA charges .58% https://www.403bcompare.com/products/153#/investmentoptions so your total costs would be at least 1.7%. Plus there are surrender charges lasting 6years https://www.403bcompare.com/products/153#/fees Yikes!

TIAA charges a management fee between 0.01 to 1% (if choosing the CREF Equity Index I have to believe the charge would be closer to 0.01%. Is there a way to find out?) : https://www.403bcompare.com/products/154#/fees
CREF Equity Index charges 0.26% https://www.403bcompare.com/products/154#/investmentoptions

Do you work at a school district? Do you have a 457(b) available? Here is info on the 457(b) https://403bwise.org/education/other including a 403(b)/457(b) side by side comparison chart: https://403bwise.org/pdf/403bwise_457b_Comparison.pdf The 457(b) is often a better choice (lower cost investments).

Here are two podcasts we have done on the 457(b)

p.s. We also have a very active Facebook Group called the 403bwise Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/349968819000560/

    Zoom + Nearpod

    Using Zoom
The event will be conducted via Zoom. If you have used this platform before simply click on the “Join Zoom Meeting” link. If you haven’t used Zoom before, click on the link now to download the software. This only takes a few moments. Here’s an excellent short tutorial on joining a Zoom Meeting for the first time https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193-Joining-a-Meeting

    JoinZoom  Meeting

    Using Nearpod
You don't have to have any experience with Nearpod to participate. Nearpod is a web-based teaching application integrated into the presentation that allows participants to engage in polls, questions, view , and share their opinions. Ideally you have two screens (one for Zoom and one for Nearpod). We will explain at outset. Please know you don't need two screen if using a laptop or desktop where you can open a second window.

  3. Welcome Lorirae,

Thanks for joining the board. The good news is that you have Aspire which will give you access to Vanguard for a small fee and you have Fidelity Investments which offers direct access to very low costs. You are most likely paying about 1% in fees. Via Fidelity you can get their Freedom Fund 2050 fund (index fund version) for 0.12% https://fundresearch.fidelity.com/mutual-funds/summary/315793869

Do you feel like you are getting good service for 0.78%. Here's a chart showing impact of fees on returns: https://403bwise.org/education#fee-impact

Keep the questions coming. We also have the 403bwise.org Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/349968819000560/?ref=web_social_plugin

  4. Great suggestions here. I echo Tony's sentiments about starting a Roth IRA with Vanguard. They can help with everything including the transfer process. Excellent info on the 457. These plans are often lower cost because their is more employee oversight required.

Also, I am doing a free webinar Get Wise to the 403(b) on the 403(b) on Wednesday, September 11 from 7-8PM EST that you might want to sit in on.

Let us know how it goes! - Dan
