  1. Thank you again, Tony, for this invaluable time and feedback. I had previously chosen VINIX, Schwab 1000 Index Fund, SCHWAB SMALL CAP INDEX FUND - all low-expense ratio funds. I probably will stick with those. I have diversified outside of my employer plan in a Roth IRA and a brokerage account with other index funds.
  2. I was just reviewing some communication I received from my VALIC rep last year - she said that they assess a .21%/year maintenance fee.
  3. Also: Transaction fees: Schwab charges transaction fees on some of its mutual fund offerings. Some funds may also charge sales and/or redemption fees. Standard fees apply on both transactions when placing simultaneous orders to sell one or more transaction-fee fund(s) and purchase additional transaction-fee fund(s) with the proceeds. No-Transaction Fee Funds (includes funds available through the Mutual Fund OneSource® service): Electronic Trade -- $0, Broker-Assisted Trade -- $25 service charge per trade may apply. Schwab's short-term redemption fee will be charged on redemption of funds purchased through Schwab's Mutual Fund OneSource service (and certain other funds with no transaction fees) and held 90 days or less. Transaction-Fee Funds: Electronic Trade -- $50 per buy, $0 per sell; Broker-Assisted Trade -- Electronic fee, plus $25 service charge per trade. You can obtain more information about PCRA commissions and transaction fees by calling Schwab's PCRA Call Center at 1- 888-393-PCRA (7272), Monday through Friday, 9:00 am through 7:30 pm ET. Or, you can view the current Charles Schwab Pricing Guide for Retirement Plan Accounts on Schwab.com for a more complete description of all other commissions and transaction fees.
  4. Thank you again, Tony. "PCRA investors are assessed an annual account maintenance fee of $50.00 by VALIC"
  5. I think the Schwab PCRA has hundreds if not thousands of funds and stocks to choose from - it works like a brokerage account I believe. I see a $50 VALIC annual maintenance fee for this fund and it appears that there are transaction fees depending on the type of fund/stock purchased. http://publish.gwinnett.k12.ga.us/gcps/wcm/connect/a7b3aa3e-eea1-4786-b173-7c70ae2bc08c/2019+Annual+Participant+Fee+Disclosure+403b.pdf?MOD=AJPERES
  6. As Tony mentioned earlier, although the PCRA is an option, it might be a lot to expect from an employee to do the necessary research to select appropriate funds. However, I do feel the county is trying and with resources such as 403bwise, the fund selection and support provided will continue to improve. I'm grateful for the three of you who have posted on this thread.
  7. Shouldn't the Schwab PCRA Self-directed fund allow for diversifying?
  8. This is great support, Tony. This summer the county is offering several sessions to help support the employees. I don't know what support would be provided for the self-directed funds. Yes, I did notice the Vanguard fund has the lowest fees - thank you for confirming. I believe the offerings have improved over time. Our VALIC reps have been very nice to work with, but I don't know how much to follow their guidance. I appreciate that you have taken the time to respond.
  9. Thank you very much for this thorough feedback, Tony. I probably should have posted this link as well - it's much more comprehensive with fee and performance info as well. http://publish.gwinnett.k12.ga.us/gcps/home/public/about/business-and-finance/retirement/content/home/plan/403b-457b-rsp I believe the 457b and 403b options are the same.
  10. Thank for the response 🙂
  11. I don't see anything mentioned about Gwinnett County Public Schools on this website. It's the 14th largest district in the US. It's been named one of best employers in the US as well, so I assume the retirement plan options are probably pretty good. Here are the plan options under the 403b and 457b plans: http://publish.gwinnett.k12.ga.us/gcps/wcm/connect/5cd490dc-7519-4e53-8e82-c31b65929aef/Investment+Options+10+31+2018.pdf?MOD=AJPERES I wonder if someone could provide some feedback?
