What the heck is a "Vanguard Diehard's Reunion"?? Does it have something to do with dead batteries?

WOW! I guess we can all assume that the nickel slots and $1 tables will be full that week!

And, Gee! How I wish I were going! Just imagining the look on the strippers faces when the "low-fee" vanguard diehards try to slip their pennies (saved from the low expenses) in their thongs make my heart leap with delight!

Can I go! Can I go! Can I pleeeeeeease go!

Hey, Pathfinder: Vanguard investors are not saving pennies, they are saving thousands of dollars over the long haul when they avoid high fee/high commission products. If that qualifies them as being a bunch of tightwads, count me in.

In truth, though, it does strike me as humorous that Las Vegas, of all places, would be chosen for such a meeting.

Hey pathfinder,

As apteacher said about being a tightwad....I am guilty as charged and proud of it. In fact, I will not even touch the penny slots. What makes my day is the thousands of dollars that will be in my portfolio after years of investing with Vanguard and TC with their low fees and zero commissions. Ill laugh all the way to the bank.

apteacher,

The event is in Las Vegas because John Bogle will be speaking at the annual Money Show. The Diehards reunion is in its fifth year and they follow Mr. Bogle around the country and this year it is in Sin City.

Unfortunately, I can not go. My work schedule will not allow it. We are going to have another Southern California local Diehard meeting in the middle of March, in case you are interested.

Take care,

Steve

Steve,

Give me a heads up when the Diehards meet in March. Pathfinder, you can come too! Bring your pennies.

Pathfinder. I think that your statement is funny. Here is serious answer for you so you can" find the path".

Unlike you, who probably goes to the $1,000 dollar table laughing at the poor shnucks who only gamble away a nickel or a dollar at a time, the average Diehard is too smart to bet even a nickel where the casinos make money on those who gamble. . The more the gambler bets, the happier the Casino's are.

The Diehard knowing that the the odds given by the casino are against the gambler uses the money to invest in Vanguard funds(some of which buy Casino shares) where the expenses are one or two percent less than the average for other companies, so for every hundred thousand dollars invested, the Diehard get one or two thousand back every year.

The Diehard then uses the money that he or she is ahead to retire earlier, secure a positive life style and if desired expensive toys (at a discount of course), while the gambler is working his off to be solvent.

So in conclusion, you laugh at us. NO, WE LAUGH AT YOU.

Wow, the folks here missed one of the better straight lines...

It is not looking like I can make the LV meeting. I would really like to make a national Diehards event someday,

just to see the faces behind the internet names. Unfortunately I will be out of town on

business the week leading into the meeting and, even more important, my wifes last official day

of teaching is May 16th. I would love to celebrate by taking her to the Diehards meeting,

but I'd rather stay married :)
