Why is a 457 considered "non-qualified" if the contributions are pre-tax???

 

 

Qualified plans come under section 401 of the Code. 403(b) is also not a qualified plan. An example of a qualified plan is your Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution pension plan under section 401(a) or your salary deferral under section 401(k).
