Are 403B and traditional IRA limits independent of each other

Are 403B and traditional IRA limits independent of each other?

Can I contribute to both, or if I have a 403B am I not permitted to use a traditional IRA?

If your employer offers a 403b then you can use it.

If your income doesn’t exceed the limit then you can use an IRA.

There isn’t a connection between the two.

And if your employer offers a 457 plan, you can make contributions to it independent of the IRA and 403b contributions!

This is another reason to push your school system to add a 457b plan along with a 403b plan. If you have a bad 403b plan littered with high fee products a 457b can sometimes ( not always)be a great escape hatch. I contributed to all three  options mentioned. If you are trying to catch up your retirement savings the 403b along with a 457 can really help with you being able to contribute some serious cash.
